Infertility generally is like any disease. It is simply a sign that something is not right inside your body and must be fixed. Fertility is a natural process in the body, but note that the body can turn off if it doesn’t feel it can safely sustain a pregnancy.

 THE WOMAN MONTHLY CYCLE

 1. Each month a ripe egg or Ovum (occasionally two) is released  from one of the ovaries.  This is  called OVULATION. 

2. The ripe egg begins to travel down the fallopian tube. It is here it may be fertilized by a man's sperm. 

3. If the egg is not fertilized by a sperm, It passes out of the body through  the vagina, which is know as the Monthly period.

CONCEPTION

• A woman is most likely to conceived  just after the  time when she ovulate, when an egg has been released from one of her Ovaries,  During sexual Intercourse,Sperm are ejaculated from  a man's  penis into the woman's vagina.
  

• Over 300 million sperm are released at once. Most of the sperm leak out of the vagina again, but some begin to swim up through  the Cervix. One sperm may then join with the egg and fertilize it. Conception is said to have  taken place.

• During the week after Fertilization, the fertilized egg,  or embryo,  moves slowly down the fallopian  tube and into the womb. It is already growing. The woman misses her period.

CAUSES OF INFERTILITY IN WOMEN

1. Infertility  can arise if the mucus remains too thick and the sperm are unable to swim through it, or if it contains  antibodies  that  attacks sperms. 

2. Either or both fallopian tubes may be blocked or damaged, preventing sperm and eggs from meeting.

3.The Ovaries may fail to provide  mature eggs or be unable to release them because  of abnormality, scarring and  adhesion

4. The uterus may contains  fibroid,  and its lining may be affected by endometriosis

5. FAILURE TO OVULATE - the inability  to release  an egg is the most common cause of female infertility. Hormonal imbalance may  be the cause  of ovulation failure

6. OVARIAN PROBLEM: scarring due to surgery  or cysts or the side effect of radiation  treatment can damage the ovaries

7. INFECTIONS - sexually transmitted infection like,  Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia,etc can damage the ovaries

8. HORMONAL IMBALANCE - the imbalance of progesterone, which is necessary for a fertilized egg's survival, may cause  Miscarriages if  too little or for too short a time, the egg may not survive. Estrogen the female hormone  too plays an important  role in the fertility of the  woman
